LAN Party

Sean and Thomas found a flyer on a bulletin board a AUM for LAN parties! There's an outfit up in Clanton just starting up called Lanifesto who plan on doing them monthly, it seems. The next one is Halloween, so we're packing up the van and heading up for 12 hours of fun.... They'll be playing some Half-life 2mods, some Unreal Tournament 2004, and a Quake 3 mod too. I got UT2K4 reloaded yesterday, now I have to bring up the old AFCEA Montgomery game server so we can all get the patches and mods off of it. We haven't been to a LAN party in almost Four years, so it should be a real treat, even if I can't remember how to play the games. I haven't decided if I want to take my fog machine yet... :)

Two Months ?!?!

Been a while, I know... Alabama Amateur Open disc golf tournament was this past Saturday, 3 October. I was the Tournament Director, and was pinging about it for quite a while... Everything went okay; around 30 people signed up and played. Thanks to Robyn, we had Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, orange juice and coffee for breakfast, and Pizza Hut Pizza for lunch between rounds. I came in 2nd in my division, and Robyn was 2nd in hers, and Sean was 2nd in his as well! Everyone seemed to have fun, maybe we'll be able to get more folks down for our next tournament... I'll try to get some photos put up in a gallery, or at least a link. I didn't take any because I was way too busy, but someone else did, I just have to find out where they posted them.

Metallica concert in Atlanta Sunday night, didn't get home until 3:15 in the morning. I had a hard time getting up for work Monday after that paltry 2 hour nap! Concert was great, though. Robyn, Thomas, Sean and I drove up, met Chris and Amanda there, and took in the show. The four of us in our car hit the Landmark Diner before AND after the show.... Great Ruebens, Chocolate milkshakes, and Cheesecake too !!

Return from Vacation

We're back from S.C., a weeklong stay at Edisto. I'm sure both my readers are happy I'm back and blogging again. I just wish we could've stayed longer (about 50 years).
The vacation was relaxing, Sean and I went to Charleston one day to play disc golf while Robyn relaxed, and on Saturday Robyn and I went down to Botany Bay WMA (formerly Plantation) while Sean took it easy. Loads of Pictures from Botany up in a sub-gallery of the Vacation.

I didn't get a chance to work on the CarPC as much as I wanted. Actually, I chose not to, forgetting to carry a LAN cable with us severely limited my connectivity! I received my Visteon HD300 radio a day or so before we left for the beach, so I took everything along with us to the beach to play with just in case of rain. It didn't rain much, but I did break it out for a day or so, "just 'cause". I managed to hit a wireless Access point for about an hour when I first brought up the PC, but that didn't last and I really didn't feel the overwhelming desire to "sneakernet" the files I needed from Mom's computer. It would've been nice to get the nGhost stuff set up, but I'll work on that soon. As soon as I do that and get me an amplifier to drive the speakers, I can actually install it in the Sylvia!

Of course, things go wrong when you're away... Leaving two of the kids at home while we were gone for a week wasn't the ideal situation, but it was unavoidable. As I had expected (dreaded), we got home and there were situations needing our immediate attention...

Cams

So, the seedlings have been moved outside for the remainder of the summer, and now I have a spare camera... I can't decide whether to build it a small shelter so I can set it up off the side porch to keep an eye on my peppers ( tomato hornworms, you know) or hide it somewhere inside to spy on the kids while I'm away... Being the trusting soul I am, I'll probably opt for the former; unless I run out of time before I leave on vacation, what with preparing the Disc Golf course out at AUM for the Tourney on Saturday, and the Biscuits baseball game Friday night, and the Tourney itself on Saturday, and C.J. coming in Saturday night... Guess the kids should be on their best behavior for a while! ;)

BirdsNestCam

BirdsNestCam is no more. Last night, a critter got into the nest, and devoured the eggs. Mama bird has not been seen since, but no feathers were found amongst the eggshells. We're back to SeedlingCam, and I'm looking into the issues with the timelapse.

4th of July

What a wonderful day! Spent time with all the kids (except C.J., sadly, but he was with us in spirit), both my grand-daughters, cooked out on the grill, floated in the pool, and took in a ball game with massive fireworks afterwards! Haili even got to go out on the field and have everyone sing her Happy Birthday! I honestly can't remember a more satisfying day in a Long time!! Tiring, but satisfying. There are pictures up in the gallery, of course!

Happy birthday, U.S.A !!

Happy 4th of July! Chris and Amanda are coming over with Kindsey, Haili is already here! Bunch of dead animal on the grill, pool ready to go, what could be better?!?! Pat and David are supposed to come over for cookout as well, then we'll pack everyone up and head down to Montgomery for the Biscuits game, with super-duper fireworks to follow. Should be a great Day!

Also, the SeedlingCam has been moved... There's a bird who built a nest in a box of fire logs on our woodpile on the side porch. I haven't been able to get the timelapse going again, so the seedling cam was pretty boring. I ran the cable down from my office and out the side door, and put the camera inside the box so we can watch momma bird, and hopefully, some chicks in a little while. Click the image to watch a stream...

Alabama Sports Festival

This past Saturday was the 2009 Alabama Sports Festival. Luke, Robyn, Larry and I piled in the van and drove up to Montevallo for the disc golf competition. I helped run the tourney, trying to get ready to run the one in October here in Montgomery. About 75 people showed up, despite temperatures in the high 90's, with a heat index nearing 110??. After the two rounds of 18 holes were finished, Luke had a gold medal in Juniors, Robyn a silver in the Women's Intermediate, and I took silver in the Advanced Masters division (over 40). Everyone seemed to have a great time, and we made some new friends too.

DG Trip

<img src="images/cabin_sm.jpg" align="left":>Excellent trip to Mississippi last weekend for disc golf, and just to get away. I was more than a little disappointed with the weather; it poured rain Friday evening and Saturday morning. All the rain made the course too muddy for Thomas to get out with us, so he spent the entire weekend cooped up in the cabin. Robyn won the Women's division, beating out two others, and Sean came in third in Juniors. I finished out of the money for the first time in my career; mainly due to horrible putting in the first round. I shot six over in the first round, two over in the second. I kinda new it was going to be one of those days when I got penalized two throws for turning in an incorrect scorecard... Tried to give myself a 67 when I actually threw 66. So, I officially ended up with a 68. I was less dissatisfied with the second round, even though I made a few stupid bogeys on easy holes. The good news is, the course is not extremely long and my elbow held up well. I threw a four-under 50 at AUM on Tuesday this week, and again Yesterday. Yesterday I missed short (<15 feet) birdie putts on 5, 14, 15, and 17, so it easily could have been 8 under. Hopefully putting practice this afternoon will get me ready for the Alabama Sports Festival tournament tomorrow!
